More specifically, it comes from the animal's neck area, known as \u003cstrong\u003ethe collar\u003c\/strong\u003e. This is the part of the skin that contains the most collagen, the protein that gives leather its suppleness and strength. It is also the part of the skin that retains the natural physical characteristics of the skin: creases or wrinkles.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis leather is\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003edyed through and through\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ewith natural pigments. A thin layer of natural resin is applied to the epidermis to enhance its patina. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis tanning process is specially designed to develop a\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003epronounced patina\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eover time. Friction and handling will polish the leather, which will shine more and more over time. Marks and traces of use will also remain visible, contributing to the patina that gives this premium leather its distinctive character. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause the patina protects your leather, this type of tanning requires very little maintenance. However, like all leather, it should be\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003elightly nourished once a month for 4 months, then twice a year\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e(use the leather care balm provided). Unlike split leather, which is taken from the dermis, full-grain leather comes from the epidermis, the strongest part of the skin, which reflects the animal's life. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eAs a result, certain \"imperfections\" will be visible, such as wrinkles, moles, stretch marks, scars, scratches, punctures, etc. These imperfections are normal. Most of the time, these marks are merely aesthetic surface imperfections and do not affect the leather's strength. As leather itself is a byproduct of livestock farming, and out of consideration for the environment, we deliberately work with hides that bear some of these marks.
