Crafting Future Urban Economies
Building the urban economies of the future
"Crafting Future Urban Economies" is a research project that aims to understand how a resurgence in making practices and craftsmanship can help address two major challenges: strengthening local economies in post-industrial cities while supporting their transition towards more circular and sustainable forms of production and consumption.
More specifically, the project aims to study:
1) How is the urban heritage of craft skills being leveraged in new forms of local (digital) making, reuse, and recycling?
2) What are the resource and material implications of circular creation?
3) What policy and consumption options harness local production?
The project generates a new theory on creating a pillar of more sustainable urban economies. By adopting an international comparative approach across different institutional contexts, this project examines the historical differences and current institutional contexts that shape outcomes.

Faméthic was interviewed by anthropologist Emanuela Naclério to participate in this study.
We hope that local, national, and European institutions will take a strong interest in it.
