the artisan's word
A leather belt is not chosen at random.
It shapes a silhouette, complements a garment, and is forgotten thanks to its comfort while maintaining a subtle presence.
It is an everyday object, but also a detail that matters: the one that balances an outfit, accentuates a line, and brings a sense of justness.
Over the years in the workshop and in the boutique, I have seen how much the choice of a belt changes the way you wear a garment, and how you feel wearing it.
how to choose the right leather belt
Here are the essential elements for choosing a leather belt, based on my 13 years of experience working in a workshop-boutique.
Look in your wardrobe: are you more into jeans and chinos, or linen trousers and suits?
Women will also look at the rise of their trousers: do you wear your trousers on your hips or above the hips, or even at a very high rise? Women will also look for belts to wear over dresses to accentuate the waist or hips.
Here are some styling tips:
- for very high rises and dresses: opt for thin belts.
- for chinos, suit trousers and women who wear their trousers high on the hips: opt for medium-width belts.
- for jeans and low rises: opt for wide belts or very wide belts.
Do you need support without feeling sausage-cased?
The wider the belt, the less you will need to tighten it to get support.
A wide belt will naturally sit on your hips or the top of your buttocks without falling even if it is not very tight. This can be useful for round or curvy body types because you avoid the feeling of having your stomach cut in two.
Medium and thin belts will be suitable for women who have a defined waist and slim body types who wear fitted clothing.
There are some mistakes to avoid:
- for wearing jeans, know that the standard width is between 3.5 and 4 cm, below 3 cm, the belt will pass over the jeans. Not very practical!
- for wearing trousers - this advice is for women: do not choose a belt narrower than 2.5 cm. Very thin belts should only be worn over dresses to embellish an outfit.
How can you tell the difference between a men's belt and a women's belt?
As you may have guessed, it's not the width of the belt that will help you make this distinction, nor the color of the leather—it's the buckle.
Thick, square buckles are more suitable for men.
Round, oval, or thinner buckles are better suited for women.
It's very simple!
Men always wear their belt in the same place: around the waist. The only exception is suit trousers and sometimes certain chinos, which are worn a little higher.
Women, on the other hand, come in many sizes and have very different body shapes.
After looking at your wardrobe, refer to the chart on each product page.
Once you have selected your size, your belt will be punched and cut precisely to your measurements.
I do not offer fully custom-made production remotely, but each model is carefully prepared according to the size chosen.
A leather belt is like a pair of leather shoes. It will take the shape of your body and become as comfortable as a slipper.
With an elegant and confident gesture, you remove your belt? It fits your size!
To achieve this result, you must wax your belt once a month for 4 months with the maintenance balm we offer you. Then, two waxings a year are enough.
There are multiple benefits to maintaining your belt:
- keep a deep and rich color,
- keep the suppleness of the leather and prevent the belt from stretching,
- remove the buckle marks around the holes,
- no longer feel your belt when you wear it,
- triple the lifespan of your belt!
a well-chosen belt complements a garment effortlessly and stands the test of time.
