Leather

We collaborate with the Alsatian tannery DEGERMANN, a supplier to luxury houses, and work their SUPORTLO® calfskin for all our models (excluding capsule collections).

Its satin aniline finish provides a smooth and silky touch while revealing the authenticity of the full-grain leather. With an average thickness of 2 mm, it is a dense and very strong leather that adapts remarkably to the wear of time. Its tanning gives it a noble and distinctive patina that your regular maintenance will not fail to enhance.

Originally, this leather was designed for boat upholstery. It is actually tanned twice: a first mineral tanning is carried out for safety and resistance reasons (it is fireproof), then a second, vegetable tanning is carried out to obtain an original finish and patina. This vegetable finish offers a natural look of the dyes carried out in the mass (the color does not bleed, does not fade). The leather is then fed in the drum (this means it is greased) to provide more flexibility and waterproof it.

SUPORTLO® is therefore a leather specially tanned to resist the sun, wind, salt, water, and sebum, while developing a natural patina.

Recently bought by Chanel, the Dégermann tannery has benefited from the Living Heritage Company label since 2012.

In our Marseille workshop, we have chosen to work exclusively with leather called "full-grain" for all our designs. Unlike leather split taken from the dermis, full-grain leather is leather coming from the epidermis, the strongest part of the skin, reflecting the life of the animal.

Thus, certain "flaws" will be visible, such as wrinkles, moles, stretch marks, scars, scratches, punctures, etc. These flaws are normal. Most of the time, these marks are only surface aesthetic flaws and do not alter the resistance of the leather in any way. Since leather itself is a waste product of the livestock activity, and for ecological reasons, we deliberately work with skins having some of these marks. Likewise, in order to limit waste during cutting, we keep some natural flaws when they are purely aesthetic.

Construction

Each of our models is entirely handmade in our Marseille workshop by Valérie, an artisan artist and creator of FAMETHIC.

Holder of traditional know-how that has made the reputation of high-end French leather goods, FAMETHIC has the artisan artist label. This means that all the design and manufacturing stages are carried out in the workshop based in the very center of Marseille, without resorting to subcontracting. No machine replaces the work of the artisan, all stages from the design of the patterns to the creation of the stitching, passing through cutting, punching, the installation of metal accessories and assembly, are carried out by hand, in the same place.

As a true independent brand, we work without intermediaries in order to offer original designs at a fair and controlled price.

We specialize in hand stitching: cross, English, and in particular, the strongest, saddle stitching. In order to place our pieces in a sustainable life cycle, the founder developed a piercing technique unique to FAMETHIC, allowing for easy repair of the seams - provided that the leather is regularly maintained.

We work with quality full-grain leathers and use hand-sewing techniques with the aim of offering solid bags that truly stand the test of time, as the seams are repairable in case of wear (unlike machine stitching). This does not give rise to any contractual guarantee on the part of FAMETHIC, simply know that maintained leather lasts three times longer and facilitates the repair of the seams.
